A pair of lilacine amazons came to join the Buffon’s macaws (Ara ambiguus) in their aviary.
The lilacin amazon  (Amazona lilacina) is endemic to Ecuador, in South America, where it is found in the canopy of dry tropical forests and mangroves. It feeds mainly on fruits, berries, seeds and nuts.
The species suffers a population decline (60% between 2000 and 2019), due to the capture of pets, and the loss and degradation of its habitat caused by agricultural expansion and firewood cutting. There would be only 1,000 to 2,500 mature individuals left in the wild! For all these reasons, the lilacin amazon is classified «Critically Endangered» on the red list of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
